Top 10 Most Livable Cities in America—Where Costs Are Low and Incomes Are Growing
The most sought-after places to live might hit you in the pocket—but when it comes to livability, there are plenty of cities to choose from.
But what makes a city livable, anyway?
It’s the “combination of all of the reasons that make you happy to call a place home,” according to RentCafe’s new list of the most livable cities.
The study analyzed 138 U.S. metros using 17 key metrics, including affordable cost of living, income growth, and a healthy job market with low unemployment rates. Other important attributes that affect livability are the number of health care providers, commuting time, and access to healthy foods.
While Portland, ME, ranks No. 1 on the list, the affordable Midwest continues to gain popularity, with at least six cities on the list.
