Alec Baldwin Crashes Wife Hilaria’s Range Rover Into Tree Near Family’s $11 Million Hamptons Estate: ‘I Feel Bad About That’

by Charlie Lankston

Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin has apologized to his wife, Hilaria, after crashing her white Range Rover into a tree near the family's $11 million Hamptons home—before blaming the accident on a truck that he claims "cut him off" while he was driving with his brother Stephen.

Alec, 67, was caught on camera at the scene of the accident, standing with police officers next to his wife's pricey vehicle, which can be seen rammed up against a tree in East Hampton, just a few minutes' drive from his home in Amagansett.

The hood of the car appears completely crushed, according to images and video shared by TMZ. Some photos capture Alec speaking to someone on the phone while surveying the damage.

Soon after news of the accident was revealed, Alec took to Instagram to share his side of the story, reassuring his fans and followers that both he and his brother are "fine," before going on to point the finger at the driver of a garbage truck who he insists caused the accident.

"I was in a car accident this morning—I'm fine," he began the clip. "My brother Stephen was visiting me on Long Island, and we spent the weekend at the [Hamptons International Film Festival]."

Alec then congratulated all who were involved with the event, before turning his attention back to the topic at hand.

"A guy cut me off in a truck, a garbage truck the size of a whale," he said. "It must have been commercial or something, taking away material from a construction site. It was the biggest garbage truck I've ever seen.

"To avoid hitting him, I hit a tree, I hit a big, fat tree ... and I crushed my wife's car. I feel bad about that. But I'm fine and my brother's fine."

Alec then expressed his gratitude for the East Hampton Police Department for "coming to [his] aid," noting that he had filed a report with the attending officers and stating that they had been "as nice as can be, as pleasant as can be about the whole thing."

Sadly, the actor said that his wife's car is "pretty smashed up" as a result of the collision with the "big, fat tree."

It appears that Hilaria was not at home at the time of the accident—having been staying in Los Angeles where she was, until recently, filming for "Dancing With the Stars."

However, in another blow to the mother of seven, she was voted off the hit competition show last week, despite earning one of the highest scores from the judges.

Still, Alec was quick to praise his wife for her performance: "I'm still so proud of my wife. Hilaria, I love you more than anything, and I'm very proud of you."

The "30 Rock" star noted that he will now travel to California to reunite with his wife and children, revealing their plans to spend "a few days" on the West Coast before returning home to their property on Long Island.

Alec and Hilaria showed off the luxurious 10,000-square-foot sanctuary in their short-lived TLC reality series, "The Baldwins," in which they offered fans a glimpse of their crazy lives with their seven children: Carmen, 12, Rafael, 10, Leonardo, 9, Romeo, 7, Eduardo, 5, Marilu, 4, and Ilaria, 2.

More recently, they allowed cameras through their front doors for a candid at-home feature with the New York Times, in which Hilaria recalled how her husband had used the dwelling as his own personal sanctuary before they ever met.

“This was Alec’s safe place for a long time before he met me," she revealed.

"A place he would come during very difficult times in his life: his divorce, a custody battle, everything. So it has been a piece-by-piece process learning how to come together and create something here, which I think is normal in any relationship.”

Reflecting on his purchase of the home in 1995—when he paid $1.75 million for the dwelling—Alec said, “When I looked at this property, no one moved north of Montauk Highway and spent any money.

"So when I bought it, I thought, I probably have to get rid of it because it was a mistake. But several years went by, and I’m like, ‘This is great. I love it because it’s private.’”

When Hilaria moved in, she began a complete overhaul of the space and switched out the limestone counters to Glassos and transformed the booze-themed room into a puzzle space, where she and her kids can spend their days putting together puzzles.

“I love puzzles, but the issue is I get hyper-focused. Like, I don’t want to stop. So I’ll sit there until I finish it, which is not a very responsible thing to do as a parent. One day, when my youngest is 18, I’ll have to find a puzzle room that has doors," Hilaria told the outlet.

In the living room of their property, there is a large portrait of Hilaria, which was inspired by a paparazzi shot.

“I have to admit that I’m extraordinarily embarrassed that there is a gigantic painting of me in this room. “It’s like, ‘Welcome to my living room. Here is a painting of me,'" she said.

In 2021, Alec and Hilaria made plans to renovate their property. However, they ditched those plans in 2022 when they put the home on the market for $29 million.

The couple even accepted an offer in 2024 but swiftly changed their minds.

“But we keep coming back here because the kids are very happy. They love it here. When I go up to the kids and go, ‘Want to sell the house?’, they go crazy.

Speaking to the New York Times, Alec revealed that he was initially hesitant about investing so much money into a place where nobody was really buying homes. (TLC)

“It’s a kids' home that I never want to leave,” Alec explained.

The 8-acre property features a 10,000-square-foot farmhouse, which provides the family with far more space than their Manhattan home. There's a bonus: the enormous outdoor spaces where the kids can play.

The luxurious home has covered porches and balconies. Amenities include a home theater, wine room, and wood-paneled library. The grounds include a pool and spa, a pavilion, and a vegetable garden.

When it was listed, the description touted an opportunity to expand the existing home, as well as the potential to build another property on the land.

According to People magazine, the family—and their many pets—regularly travel between this home and their Manhattan penthouse.

The home has been a sanctuary for the couple over the years. It was in their Hamptons estate that the family hunkered down during the COVID-19 pandemic, and they also spent time there in the wake of the fatal shooting on the set of Alec's movie "Rust."

In October 2021, an unimaginable tragedy unfolded when he accidentally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins dead while practicing with a prop gun that had been wrongly loaded with live ammunition.

Alec was charged with involuntary manslaughter. However, the case against him was dismissed in July 2024.

In an episode of "The Baldwins," Alec lamented the size of his property, telling camera crews, "We know it’s too small."

Though their stunning Greenwich Village property, which they snapped up in 2011 for $11.7 million, spans more than 4,000 square feet and boasts four bedrooms, it's not spacious enough for their children and their eight furry friends, according to the actor.

Their reality series gave fans a glimpse of the crowded property, which features three bunk beds and two split rooms for the children.

Although the thought of filming the reality series was "the most preposterous thing I’d ever heard of,” according to Alec, it gave them a voice instead of having “everybody else" speak for them.

Alec and Hilaria, who wed in 2012 after meeting at a vegan restaurant in New York City, have spent much of their married life living inside a luxury apartment building, where they own a whopping four apartments between them.

The first, which was purchased by the "30 Rock" star for $11.7 million in 2011, is an enormous 4,137-square-foot penthouse that boasts four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. It also comes with outdoor space.

However, as Alec and Hilaria continued to expand their family, they also expanded their real estate holdings, snapping up three more units on the same floor, allowing them to create an enormous abode for their kids.

In 2012, Hilaria bought her own 12th-floor unit for $1.2 million, adding 840 square feet to their dwelling, which seemed to provide the duo ample space for their brood for several years.

Then, in 2017, months before welcoming their fourth child, son Romeo, Alec purchased a much more modest 480-square-foot studio on the same story, this time paying $1.3 million.

He followed that up two years later with a $1.7 million purchase in 2019.
