Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo Fire Back at Decorator Who Claims She Suffered Traumatic Brain Injury at Their Montecito Mansion

by Kelsi Karruli

Adam Levine and his wife, Behati Prinsloo, have called for a court to toss out sections of a lawsuit filed against them by their former decorator, who claims she suffered a traumatic brain injury after falling from a ladder at their $60 million mansion in Montecito, CA.

Shana Kallen, a California decorator who was enlisted by Levine, 46, and Prinsloo, 37, to overhaul the exterior of the sprawling property, accused the couple of "negligence" in a 2024 lawsuit, in which she alleged that she suffered severe and debilitating injuries as a result of an unsafe working environment at the property.

Legal documents seen by Realtor.com® reveal that Kallen accused the couple—who were identified only by their initials, of failing to ensure a safe working environment at their dwelling after hiring her to decorate their outdoor patio with plants.

Kallen claims that in March 2023 she fell to the ground from a ladder that was set up for her to access the second-floor patio, claiming that she hit the concrete ground and, as a result, suffered a brain injury.

However, she then filed an amended complaint in December 2025, accusing the A-list duo of acting with "reckless disregard" for her well-being, while requesting more than $25,000 in damages, as well as up to $4 million to cover her "future medical costs."

In their own legal filing on Jan. 20, Levine and Prinsloo hit back at Kallen, calling for her "improperly pled punitive damages" to be thrown out, while also asking the court to strike her claims of "negligence," claiming her accusations amount to "boilerplate allegations that do not rise to the level of malice, fraud, or oppression required in order to sustain a claim for punitive damages."

The Hollywood duo profusely denied any malicious claims and claim that the accident was due to "passive negligence."

They also requested that the decorator's ask for "an award of future medical costs" be tossed out, claiming that her plea is prohibited by civil code.

Kallen alleges that the fall caused her “to violently strike the concrete ground,” leaving her in a coma for two days and having to undergo a craniectomy.

She claimed that she experienced "significant" injuries because of the accident, including the "diminishment" of her vision and hearing, causing her to wear hearing aids and prism glasses.

In the complaint, the decorator also claimed that her injuries have also caused the “suspension of her driver’s license, reduction in life span, and other damages to her body and health."

The couple, who share three children together, purchased the elegant dwelling for $52 million in an off-market deal in 2022. They've since offloaded the property to relocate to a new home that is closer to their kids' school, selling their Montecito mansion for $60 million in October.

They had originally purchased the property for $52 million in 2022 but made the decision to relocate after coming across what their spokesperson described as an abode that was "too special to resist."

While the final price for their mansion didn't quite reach their sky-high ask of $65 million—which saw the home become the most expensive property listed for sale in Montecito over the last three months—they will walk away with a huge sum, even after they poured ample money into renovating the abode.

According to its listing, the home underwent an extensive renovation during Levine and Prinsloo's ownership, with the couple turning to the celebrity-loved team at Clements Design to help them overhaul the dwelling.

As a result, "the home is the epitome of turnkey luxury," the listing notes. The property comes with two guesthouses.

The home features a "state-of-the-art gym and wellness area," a home theater, a catering kitchen, a tennis court, a vegetable garden, a chicken coop, and a koi pond.

Thanks to its hilltop perch, the home also boasts stunning views of the ocean, as well as an expanse of green lawn that is dotted with trees and plants.

Inside, the aesthetic is modern, yet elegant, with roaring fireplaces seen in multiple rooms to give the home a very cozy feel without sacrificing the classic California vibe.

For those with a penchant for entertaining, there are multiple areas in the home to do so, including the enormous kitchen that features an island capable of seating plenty of guests, as well as a formal dining room, a dark living room complete with a private bar, and a main living space that features a wall of windows.

Outside, there is a lounge area and a dining area where meals can be enjoyed under the sunshine or the stars.

The home's huge swimming pool has also been outfitted with multiple sun loungers and umbrellas to provide yet another area in which to entertain guests or simply to soak up some rays in privacy.

The upstairs patio area features yet another lounging area, as well as a small table for dining.

As one might expect of such an A-list couple, the primary suite has also been outfitted with an enormous walk-in closet that could double as an additional sitting room.

Levine and Prinsloo are not moving far however, having snapped up another Montecito abode from fellow A-lister Oprah Winfrey, who sold the couple a dwelling located on her own enormous estate.

Winfrey offloaded the property to the pair for $17.27 million, more than double the price she paid to purchase the home from another Hollywood legend, Jeff Bridges, in 2019.

It's understood that the couple plan to carry out some extensive renovations to the home, with their spokesperson previously revealing that they were viewing the dwelling as an "exciting opportunity," adding that they were going to spend around a year "developing" the estate.

While they have not revealed where they will reside while work on the property is carried out, records show that the couple also purchased another nearby dwelling at the start of November for $12.5 million.

That property, which they purchased via the same trust as Oprah's dwelling, boasts 7,300 square feet of living space, including five bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms.

While their new home was never put on the MLS, instead changing hands in an off-market deal, a previous listing for the property described it as having been built in 1919, with the main residence on the sprawling parcel designed by architect James Osborne Craig.

At just 3,500 square feet, the main dwelling on the property is tiny compared with the 13,300 square feet of living space the couple enjoyed at their former residence, which they sold Oct. 7, six weeks before closing on Oprah's home.

The primary residence boasts just two bedrooms and four bathrooms, and features exposed-beam ceilings, hardwood floors, and five fireplaces.

While that might not seem like enough space for Levine and Prinsloo's family of five, the property does feature several other structures on its 4-acre parcel, including a one-bedroom guesthouse, a carriage house with an office and "bonus rooms," and an array of equestrian facilities, including a five-stall barn, a corral, and a tack room.

Other external amenities include a greenhouse, beautiful lawns and gardens, an orchard, and a pool and spa, according to a previous listing.
